Getting started

From signed-up to first invoice in under fifteen minutes. This walkthrough covers the bare minimum to start running real lessons through TutorStudio — you can come back to the deeper guides whenever you need them.

What you'll have at the end

  • A live account with two-factor authentication enabled.
  • Your first subject defined, with an hourly rate.
  • Your first parent and student, linked together.
  • Your first lesson scheduled — and ready to auto-invoice when it ends.
  • (Optional) Stripe Connect attached, so parents can pay you online.

The five-minute walkthrough#

  1. Create your account

Go to the sign-up page, enter your name, email and a strong password. You'll be asked to verify your email — the link expires after an hour, so click it sooner rather than later.
  2. Pick a subject and rate

Head to Subjects → New subject. A subject is just a thing you teach (GCSE Maths, A-Level Physics, beginner piano) attached to an hourly rate. You can have as many as you like, and you can change the rate later — past lessons keep the rate they were booked at.
  3. Add a parent, then a student

In Parents → New parent, enter the bill-payer's name and email. Then in Students → New student, fill in the child's details and pick the parent you just added from the dropdown. Siblings can share one parent.
  4. Choose how the parent pays

On the parent's page, toggle between per-lesson (invoiced after each lesson) and prepay (a parent buys a bundle of hours up front and you draw them down). Most tutors start with per-lesson — it's the simplest mental model.
  5. Schedule your first lesson

From Lessons → New lesson, pick the student, subject, and a date/time. That's it. After the lesson's end time passes, you'll see a confirmation prompt on your dashboard — one tap confirms the lesson and queues the invoice.

Where everything lives#

Your Dashboard is the home screen. It shows what's coming up, what's outstanding, and what you've earned this month — nothing more. Every other screen is one click away from here.

The left-hand nav is the same on phone, iPad and desktop. On mobile it tucks behind the menu button — every flow is mobile-first, you don't need a laptop to run your week.

Secure it before you trust it#

Before you load real student data in, take two minutes to lock your account down. Settings → Security has everything you need.

Where to go next#
